LIONEL PODCAST: (The Trite Con of the Contrite) vs. (The Quite Right Write Rite)

This is the most important documentary I’ve ever seen. Period. See it. Now. He’s the most courageous man on the planet. It’s one thing to throw your weight around in Cleveland. It’s another to stick your thumb in the eye of the Chinese government. And what’s his weapon? Twitter. Social media. Not the social media that produces such self-aggrandizing narcissistic pap like Facebook but Twitter. Imagine Tiananmen Square with Twitter. Imagine the first lynching by the Klan if caught and then uploaded. This is the most critical advance in human interpersonal communication and there’s Anthony Weiner sexting his. Then again, the earliest cave paintings were just graffiti I suppose. Do not forget this man. He’s a saint. And would be dead were it not for the very device that exposes the horrors of those who want him dead.

Ai Weiwei is China’s most famous international artist, and its most outspoken domestic critic. Against a backdrop of strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system, Ai expresses himself and organizes people through art and social media. In response, Chinese authorities have shut down his blog, beat him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention.

AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY is the inside story of a dissident for the digital age who inspires global audiences and blurs the boundaries of art and politics. First-time director Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai while working as a journalist in China. Her detailed portrait provides a nuanced exploration of contemporary China and one of its most compelling public figures. Id.

And now the second most important voice of the twenty-first century. And I as well.

LIONEL PODCAST: Immutable Verity. Realistic Disdain. Cautious Pessimism.

This is a subscription podcast. Click here to enter the world. It’s my art. It’s my craft. It’s my expression. And it’s my party and . . . you now the rest.

Build a better mousetrap. Unless your the mouse. Just look at your world. Don’t get me wrong, You’re a good person for the most part and you mean well. You don’t exactly commit yourself to knowing everything that goes on in the world, in fact, you’d rather not be bothered. And that’s the way your leaders want it.And that’s the way it will always be.

Edward Bernays noted that, “The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society.”

I’d rather distract than persuade you. True. Information sleight of hand. Journalistic prestidigitation. And look who’s running the show. Mark Twain said, “Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.” Why does he make more sense today?

Enjoy my myriad musings.

LIONEL PODCAST: A Gore Vidal Eulogium. Lethal Hair-Splitting, Parsing and Deconstruction.

Vidal in a nutshell. ““I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’m a conspiracy analyst.” Verity.

The immutable insanity of lethal hair-splitting. I can’t get past the fact that we wring our hands over what to do with multi-round magazines but we think nothing of the horrors that we, you and I collectively, enact and exact under the name of ___ (your vague causal reference here). It is horror, pure and simple, how governments unleash the inconceivable rain of death with impunity and not so much as a whisper from the media. And you’d think that the prototypical left would do and say something. But they don’t and can’t. They’re bankrupt and bereft of mission. As is the despicable right. Wisdom knows no direction.

Pretending the world makes sense doesn’t make it so. In May of this year I paid tribute somewhat to Vidal. Herein.
