LIONEL PODCAST: Jon Stewart’s Obsession With Fox Populi

An obsession in psychiatric terms is defined as a persistent idea or impulse that continually forces its way into consciousness, often associated with anxiety and mental illness. And Jon Stewart’s persistent fixation and topic perseveration with Fox News is nothing short of a full-blown obsession. He’s become Delphic, oracular and mantic as he warns the masses of the duplicity that this dreaded channel and news outlet spews. It’s beyond boring and tedious. He believes his own press. He truly thinks he’s the most trusted man in news. His rally to restore sanity or whatever he took very, very seriously. The voice of reason. The mouthpiece of a new and sentient people. Oh, puh-leeze, Jon. Give it a rest. He’s sounding more like Olbermann, who completely went off the rails and is now in TV Siberia boring the living Shi’ite out of his unsuspecting viewer with weekly force-feedings of Thurber.

LIONEL AUDIO PODCAST: The Perfect Television News-Entertainment Show & Why It’ll Never Happen

This is my idea of the perfect show. ‘Twould combine every facet of subject matter that fascinates me. Every discipline and topic. And for that reason, because it would be atypical, sui generis, nonpareil and without any reference of familiarity, it would never see the light of day on conventional TV. It would scare media management because it has never been done. Everything on conventional and usual TV is formulaic, cookie-cuter, playbook and bumper sticker. It’s usual, trite, tried, true, hackneyed and why I want to wax emetic whenever the next news chat show is thrown at me.

Herein is my ideal, dream TV show, captained by yours truly. With the amputation of Olbermann, you’d think that media panjandrums would get the message that innovation is the only thing that will save them. Yeah, you’d think. Herein, my blueprint.

LIONEL AUDIO: Bladder Terror Inter Alia, Tea Party Realities & ‘Maters

The voiding cystourethrogram (infra) was a horror I endured as an adolescent. Waterboarding’s got nothing on this example of medieval urological terror. In my message, I clearly address the fact that if you can pee, be thankful. Enjoy the simple things in life. Like peeing, micturition or (the urologist’s preference) voiding, the simple things in life are what’s important. If you’re an older man, fret not that your stream can’t etch stone like it once did. You pee, therefore you are. Be thankful. And for tomatoes as well. I know, the two may not seem logically connected, but the again, neither do you. I explicate herein.

And speaking of painful bladder procedures, I’d rather drink bleach than listen to some of the bunkum passing for political commentary. The snark-fest of the MSNBC crew, so mindlessly and blatantly Obama obeisant, and the bumper sticker, cookie cutter, echo chamber, GOP claptrap of Fox — both miss the point of the tea party victories. If anything, it spells doom for the GOP and should inure to the benefit of Dems. But these folks have proven so politically maladroit, don’t count on them getting anything right.

Good day.

LIONEL AUDIO: MSNBC for Dummies, The Genius of Fox & The Inanity of Cable News Delivery Systems

Not that anyone asked me, but … . (Channeling the great Jimmy Cannon.) I’m in awe of the programming decisions of MSNBC. In awe that someone who obviously takes that many hallucinogenics is given the programming duties of a major cable news outlet. And the grande dame, the doyenne of schmaltz-talk is the Queen herself, Mika Brzezinski, without peer and nonpareil at mind-numbing vacuity and vapidity delivered without fail or surcease. This woman has nary a clue as to anything that vaguely resembles relevance and can work the subject of obesity into any subject. Why? So that she can provide her self-styled image as taught and fit MILF, Cougar (whatever) in stark contrast. “Meager” is to mentation and political dialogue what corn syrup is to diabetes.
