LIONEL PODCAST: Why Pete King Is Right, Why Second Amendment Folks Should Be Watching Saudi Arabia & Why No One Cares About Africa

There are three areas covered specifically herein.

  • How the professional left and right miss the point regarding Peter King’s investigation into the domestic infiltration of radical Islam! The question is simple: Is he forbidden from broaching the subject? Of course not. So what’s the problem? His tone of voice? Attitude? What exactly is he doing wrong? Both sides jump into lockstep knee jerk. The pro left screams Islamophobia! on cue. The pro right slathers on the Islamofascist trope hype with the broad brush. People, relax. Think for once.

  • If it wasn’t for the ability of protesters in Libya and Saudi Arabia to get their hands on Kalashnikovs (AK-47’s) and assault rifles, they wouldn’t have a chance. Funny, are they rebels, rioters or freedom fighters? It depends where you’re from. And the rabid anti-gun group have a tough choice here: Do they encourage armed rebellion against an oppressive regime or do they maintain their staunch intransigent opposition to all guns, at all times in all places?

  • This was a piece that I did during my PIX 11 Commentary. I ask a very simple question: Why do we seem to forget or ignore the horrors of genocide, rape and unspeakable atrocities in the Congo, Ivory Coast, Sudan and Africa in general? Why? As I note: If there’s not a lot of oil, there’s not a lot of interest. Not to mention the more insidious subtext: The perils of the (seeming) primitive, the non-Caucasian and non-Western don’t seem to wrench the media’s heart as much as those who look more like “us.” Not to mention, there’s not a lot of oil there.

LIONEL AUDIO: The Impuissant Pastor Wimps Out

This man with the retro ‘stache wimped out and decided against the Qur’an barbecue. He’s an impuissant, feckless, atesticular charlatan. And if he’s a reverend, I’m Eleanor Roosevelt. He knew he wasn’t going to go through with the event because someone ‘splained to him, the facts. After he Googled the murder pictures of Theo van Gogh, I’ll bet the “Rev” here thought against it. Herein is my screed for your edification. It’s gratis. You’re welcome.

LIONEL AUDIO: Weekend Review, Film, Obama’s Impuissance, “Mosqueteers,” Hitchens’s Big C, Facebook Illiteracy & Heartbroken Lefties

The week has proved most fascinating for me. So many subjects, so little time. In this screed the following are discussed in no particular order.

  • Film reviews. This week’s favorite is “The Sicilian Girl.” It’s a dramatic retelling of the story of Rita Atria: “how a 17-year-old Sicilian whose father and brother were both Mafia members (and victims) breaks the vow of silence that enshrouds that world, and gives evidence to famed anti-Mafia judge [Paolo] Borsellino.” [Source] When you compare it to the American film drivel à la The Sopranos, you appreciate the historical underpinnings of La Mafia Siciliana that are never even addressed in America’s basic thug films.
  • Christopher Hitchens’s esophageal cancer and the absolutely ridiculous questions posed by some who wonder if he’ll now “convert” as death is imminent. It’s insane. If Hitch lost the Brit brogue, nobody’d give him the time of day. We’ve a British fetish. We attribute great cerebration to “limey lingua.”
  • Facebook illiteracy. Nothing exposes better just how illiterate we are than Facebook. Just read some of the rambling, maundering prattle of folks. It’s a sad statement. What’s worse is how adults still don’t get the fact that it’s not a private communication medium.
  • The chagrined left, chided by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, and how their boyfriend Barry hurt their feelings. Obama’s as much a “progressive” as I’m center for the Knicks. And how Obama had to reexplain his New York mosque position. Not good if you have to explain what you’ve explained.

LIONEL AUDIO: The Pentagon Mosque. The What?! Why Didn’t I Hear About This? I’ll Tell You Why, But You Won’t Like It.

While a slew of well-intended but clueless folks protest the proposed Islamic Center within an unacceptable propinquity to the hallowed Ground Zero, always referring to the proposed center as a mosque, I’d bet that most if not all were unaware of a mosque of sorts positioned and located in the Pentagon. Not two blocks from the Pentagon or a mile away but in the Pentagon. Yep, you heard right.

Justin Elliott’s superb piece in Salon entitled “Why did no one object to the ‘Pentagon mosque’? cites a 2007 Washington Times article that speaks almost glowingly of the practice of regular Islamic prayer services in the very building that was allegedly attacked by Muslims on 9/11. I needn’t remind you whom the Washington Times is owned by.

Yes, Muslims have infiltrated the Pentagon for their nefarious, prayerful purposes — daring to practice their religion inside the building where 184 people died on Sept. 11, 2001. They haven’t even had the sensitivity to move two blocks, let alone a mile, away from that sacred site. [Salon]

During the reign of 43, Dubya and Laura were most ecumenical in their recognition of the importance of validating Islam. The Washington Times piece, replete with grammatical and punctuation errata, provides this perspective from the Bush Security Council.

President and Mrs. Bush host an iftar dinner every year because they want people around the world to know how much they respect Islam and the many Muslims living in the U.S. who are free to worship as they want, and are an integral part of our society,”[sic] said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council.

You’d think the anti-mosquers would have picked up on this and you’d further think that if they did, they’d be hard-pressed to justify the lunacy of objecting to the New York Islamic Center when the highest ranks of the Defense Department found nothing troubling about providing facilities within a building that was purportedly targeted and attacked by the very people praying. In fact New York City has more than 100 mosques, compared with 10 in 1970, and more than 800,000 of its 8.21 million residents are Muslims. [Source] In the U.S. there are approximately 850,000 Muslim Americans under the age of 18 in addition to the 1.5 million adults, for a total of 2.35 million Muslims nationwide. [Source]

LIONEL AUDIO: If You Don’t Act More Tolerant, I Swear I’ll Kill You!

You can’t make this stuff up. On one of my nightly New York WPIX Channel 11 news commentaries I did a parody on getting rid of the constitution. At least, I thought it was a parody. I thought it was patently obvious that my tongue was absolutely and firmly planted in my cheek. It was so obvious and without a gram of rational thought, surely (and, yes, I’ll call you Shirley) my WPIX viewers would notice. Wrong! I was besieged with congratulatory emails thanking me for finally putting to bed the crazy notion about rights and individual liberties. These constitutional nihilists agreed with everything I presented in parody.

Then in another commentary I addressed the idea of the fact that it is not, nor should it be, against existing law to wear baggy, saggy pants no matter how much they annoy our sartorial sensibilities. You know, the kind that gang bangers sport, the type of breeches style that was made famous in prisons. The reason, for the record, was that since all devices used to cinch the waist or lace shoes are removed in the hoosegow to prevent hangings and strangulation, VOILA! pants sagged. Latter day cultural historians somehow made the excruciatingly mind-boggling connection that how pantaloons were positioned denoted an affirmation and approbation of urban crime, gangs or whatever psychotic connection you may care to invoke.

These folks also think that majority rule is the law of the land. Take the brouhaha surrounding an Islamic cultural center sought to be built at or near the hallowed ground zero, which still is a gaping hole almost nine years after 9/11. The only way to permit our government to outright deny its construction because of the source of faith it represents is an absolute violation of the Free Exercise clause of the First Amendment. But, details, details. These Boeotians still labor under the delusion that we are a Christian nation and will always be one. Wow.

What I’ve concluded heretofore is that we are in dire need of a reeducation process (not the Mao version, mind you) to reacquaint folks with the basics, rudiments and tenets of a free society and how the constitution, that everybody seems to be totin’ and sportin’ at rally after rally, guarantees the right to look like a damn fool. These Archie Bunker types are a perennial problem, viz. some knucklehead decides that he’s the final arbiter of what’s acceptable. And what’s even more frightening is the constitutionally nescient rube who feels that we’ll all be hoist by our Bill of Rights petard if we continue to exert and defend our liberties. If there’s one thing that we can’t afford to do is to loosen what’s left of the increasingly protections we have left.
