Concerns are quietly building inside Republican circles that Donald Trump may be leaning too heavily into prosecuting political adversaries at a moment when voters are focused on everyday pressures. The latest flashpoint involves the Justice Department’s renewed indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, tied to a social media post showing seashells arranged to read “86 47.”
Federal prosecutors argue the message could be interpreted as a threat against the president, citing “86” as slang for removal and “47” as a reference to Trump’s presidency. Critics, including some Republicans, see it differently. Senator Thom Tillis noted that the phrase is commonly used without violent intent, raising questions about whether the case stretches legal interpretation.
This marks the second prosecution effort against Comey since Trump returned to office. Meanwhile, investigations have also touched figures like Letitia James, John Bolton and Jerome Powell, reinforcing the perception among some observers that legal action is being directed at long-standing rivals.
Strategists within the party are expressing unease. Consultant Barrett Marson warned that many voters, especially those outside the core base, are less interested in political score-settling and more concerned about inflation, energy costs and global instability. Polling has reflected similar sentiments, with a majority of Americans saying the administration has not focused enough on the country’s most pressing issues.
Even some longtime Republican voices suggest that revisiting past disputes could be politically risky ahead of national elections. The underlying tension is clear. While accountability and justice remain central themes for supporters, others worry that emphasis on personal battles may overshadow broader policy priorities at a time when economic and geopolitical concerns dominate the public conversation.

Tony Jackson on Larry’s Country Diner Season 21 delivers a straight ahead traditional country performance that feels like a return to basics. No gimmicks no overproduction just storytelling and voice. He leans into classics like The Fighting Side of Me and originals with that deep resonant tone that cuts through. The setting is relaxed almost front porch style which lets the music breathe. It is a reminder of what country sounded like before it got dressed up for radio and algorithms.
