Casiopea’s “Galactic Funk” is a dazzling showcase of Japanese jazz fusion at its most exuberant. The track rockets forward on a muscular bass line, razor sharp guitar, sparkling keyboards and precision drumming, yet never feels mechanical. Every player seems to be enjoying the sheer athleticism of the arrangement. The title is perfect because the music sounds futuristic, playful and almost weightless. It is funk engineered like a spacecraft, technically formidable but irresistibly joyful, proving virtuosity can still swing.
