Axios reports that President Donald Trump is facing declining approval ratings just weeks before the November 2026 midterm elections. Three national surveys place his approval between 33 and 36 percent. Democrats lead Republicans by eight to ten points in congressional preference polling. The most significant weakness is the economy. Only 21 percent approve of Trump’s handling of living costs in one survey. Even Republican support has softened with approval among party members ranging from 76 to 79 percent.
But the distinction between MAGA Republicans and other Republicans is particularly revealing. Among self-identified MAGA Republicans, Trump enjoys 95 percent approval. Among non-MAGA Republicans, that figure falls to 47 percent.
Republican candidates now confront a complicated political calculation. They need Trump’s enthusiastic supporters without alienating independent voters. Reuters found that candidates in 41 of 62 competitive congressional races have distanced themselves from his policies or minimized their association with him.
The larger question is whether these numbers reflect temporary dissatisfaction over economic conditions or a more fundamental political realignment. Polling measures public sentiment at a particular moment. It does not determine election results. But it does reveal the tensions Republicans must confront as November approaches.
95% of MAGA Republicans approve of Trump. For non-MAGA Republicans, it’s 47%.
That split is complicating the GOP’s midterm strategy.

There was something magical about Sérgio Mendes and Brasil ’66. Their 1966 performance of Goin’ Out of My Head on The Hollywood Palace captures an extraordinary moment in American popular music. The effortless sophistication. The gorgeous harmonies. The unmistakable Brazilian rhythms. Everything was understated yet meticulously arranged. Nobody was screaming or competing for attention. The musicianship spoke for itself. Mendes transformed a familiar pop standard into something elegant and refreshingly original. Watch the faces. Listen to the phrasing. Appreciate the restraint. This was entertainment when talent and musical imagination were more important than spectacle.
