Donald Trump understands something Democrats apparently refuse to acknowledge. Vladimir Putin is not going anywhere. Russia remains one of the world’s largest energy producers and American foreign policy cannot operate on the childish assumption that refusing to negotiate somehow makes geopolitical realities disappear. Trump’s diesel agreement with Putin represents practical diplomacy designed to address an economic crisis hurting American truckers farmers businesses and families.
Meanwhile Democrats are already threatening congressional investigations against American companies participating in the arrangement. They have not even won the midterm elections and they are preparing another confrontation with Trump. Congressional oversight is legitimate but political intimidation masquerading as accountability deserves serious scrutiny.
The criticism of Putin has become so reflexive that even discussing mutually beneficial economic cooperation is treated as an act of surrender. That is not diplomacy. That is ideological paralysis. European governments have their own strategic interests but American energy policy should be determined by American economic priorities.
Of course the agreement must be lawful and its economic benefits demonstrated. But Democrats opposing Russian diesel have an obligation to explain where replacement supplies will come from and how quickly prices can fall.
Trump recognizes that negotiation is not capitulation. Putin recognizes the economic importance of Russian energy resources. Both have an opportunity to pursue practical cooperation instead of permanent confrontation.
Americans do not need another investigation designed for television. They need affordable diesel reliable energy supplies and a government willing to put their economic interests first. Results matter more than political posturing.

“I Saw the Light” is a classic 1972 song written and originally recorded by Todd Rundgren for his album Something/Anything?. Its bright melody and polished pop arrangement contrast beautifully with its lyrics about romantic realization and emotional awakening.
This rendition by September In The Park pays tribute to Rundgren’s distinctive songwriting.
