Clarence White transformed The Byrds from a folk rock sensation into a formidable guitar driven band. His extraordinary technique combined bluegrass precision with rock improvisation and country soul. In this 1970 performance of “Eight Miles High” White demonstrates why guitarists still revere his musicianship. His innovative string bending and astonishing fluidity helped redefine the electric guitar. Alongside Roger McGuinn he pushed The Byrds into adventurous territory where psychedelia met country rock and extended improvisation became a thrilling demonstration of musical intelligence.
