Joey Calderazzo, John Patitucci and Dave Weckl tear through “Chickmonk” with the kind of effortless precision only veteran jazz masters can produce. Patitucci wrote the piece as a tribute to Chick Corea and Thelonious Monk, and the influences are unmistakable. Calderazzo attacks the piano with rhythmic invention, Patitucci anchors and converses rather than merely accompanies, while Weckl drives everything with astonishing control. Recorded live in Cremona during their 2024 European tour, it is sophisticated, muscular, playful modern jazz and electrifying.

Here’s a song from an early show in Cremona, Italy, from the CPW EU tour, 2024. Dave says “we’re still learning/searching how to end it! lol” John Patitucci wrote this one for Chick Corea and Thelonius Monk. This is a very special trio, with an individually long history (Dave first met Joey when he was 15!)
